- MEGA ARCHIVE NEWS UPDATE -

From Stewart Grant,
Chairman of the Historical Archives Committee

Official Rollout Of The New Archives Photo Gallery

On November 10, 2008, we rolled our new Photo Gallery product that replaces our current photo gallery which has served us well over many years. The new program will allow our PageMasters to have the ability of loading new pictures much quicker than in the past.  These PageMasters will be ramping up the activity of soliciting the membership and other qualified sources for new photos. So, don't be surprised when they come "knocking on your door" for your pictures about the best duty you have ever experienced.  We are also in the process of migrating several hundreds of old photos to our new photo gallery.

Two ways to view our new Archive Photo Gallery product.

Go directly to the Main Gallery and visit several detachments/albums

Click on the Historical Archives button on the main MEGA home page.

Click on the Detachment Photo Albums tile.
Click on the Album that you want to visit
Click on the picture you wish to view and it will enlarge the thumbnail you selected.
When done, just click on the city name at the top of the page and it will take you back to the first of the album.

Go directly to a detachment album

Click on the Historical Archives button on the main MEGA home page.

Click on the Detachment Pages tile.
Locate and Click on your Detachment's name.
Click on Detachment Photo Albums tile, which will bring up the first detachment's pictures in the photo album.  Some detachments don't have photos loaded.
Click on the picture you wish to view and it will enlarge the thumbnail you selected.  To return to the Album, just click on the city name at the top on the page and it will take you back to the main album or use your browser return.

Note:  Not all of the detachments have been modified with a link to the new photo gallery and not all detachments have photos.

Help Wanted

As the Historical Archive volume grows, we need help in the form of additional PageMasters.  We currently have about 20 PageMasters, with some of them taking on more than one Detachment.  PageMasters can support Detachments where they did not serve.

We need MEGA members to join our PageMasters team and be the point person for collecting and updating one or more of the Detachments in our Archives.  We are sure you are out there and have pictures and documents, from your tour, that need to be added and preserved on the Historical Archives web pages and photo gallery. The only job requirement is that you have a computer and possibly a scanner.  It is easy to add pictures and documents, using our new photo gallery.

If interested, please contact me at history@embassymarine.org.

New Chairman of the Historical Archives Committee

On Oct 10, 2008, I replaced Jack McGarry as Chairman of the Historical Archives Committee. I  served on Embassy Duty
as a watch stander in Ankara, TR (61/62) and Abidjan, CI (62/63).  I am a retired Healthcare and I.T. executive and I reside in Kansas City, Missouri.

Jack will continue to take an active role with the Archives Committee. My  thanks to Jack for all of the hard work and hours he has put into the Historical Archives program to get it where is today.
