Had a good laugh today. Met a person who said he was a former Marine and was on Embassy Duty. I remaked about being in Fox Co. ( since his dates went back that far) and asked if he belonged to MEGA. Got the deer in the headlights look. Then got the "well not exactly on Embassy Duty", Yeh I already figured that out.

Passing of William (Bill) McClure - MEGA Life Member: It is my sad duty to inform the membership that Bill McClure passed on 27 August 2011. Bill joined MEGA in 2007 and, four years later, MEGA has lost a very valuable association asset. Bill supported the association by being a Director on the Board of Directors, the Membership Chairperson and an Historical Archives team member responsible for the China and India detachments. His devotion to MEGA is best acknowledged by his persistent efforts towards increasing our membership numbers and willingness to take on more tasks, when the need arose.

Another great reunion. Had a great time and met some new members... Wanted to Thank Chuck Norris our reunion Chairman and MRP (Military Reunion Planners) for all they did and the hard work they did. Also wanted to thank two of my former NCOIC's that attended. That would be one Gunny Charles J. Caproni and S/Sgt Frank J. Mello. 2011 MEGA BOARD OF DIRECTOR ELECTIONS The election for MEGA Board Members will be coming up during our next reunion in San Diego. The Board is composed of nine members who serve three-year terms with three terms up for election each year. A Chairman and Vice-Chairman are elected from within the Board, each serving a one-year term. Serving on the Board are also the Secretary and Treasurer, both of whom serve three year terms. Additionally, the Board has an appointed Legal Officer. The current Secretary serves until 2012; and the current Treasurer serves until 2013. Three positions for seats on the Board of Directors will be open in 2011. An ideal board is composed of experienced board members who possess the knowledge and culture of what has taken place in the past and new members who can bring innovative and fresh ideas and suggestions to a board. If you are interested in running for the board, it is suggested you read the Election Process Rules. Of particular interest will be Section IV, Eligibility of Candidates and Voters, Section V, Declaration of Candidacy, and Section VI, Campaign Literature. The rules can be found on the MEGA website, in the Member’s Area. The link for the document is “Voting Information”. Any interested member in good standing who wishes to stand for the Board should submit a biographical sketch of 125 words or less by March 7, 2011. It is not required (but recommended) that you also submit a photo. Send to Virgil Johnson, Chairperson, Election Committee, at 22 Constitution Blvd., Berlin, NJ 08009-1352 or at vjohnson@eticomm.net.

In signing this guestbook this date (a few minutes ago) I failed to mention the fact that I also renewed a friendship with one Carl Robin who was in Ankara, Turkey. That was 45 years ago as well but Carl has mellowed and didn't take me out in the streets during rebellions. Result; we didn't get arrested or restricted to quarters like in the old days. I cannot tell you more than that but welcome Carl aboard as a new member. He was gungy....ET

LISTEN UP! If you missed the 2009 MEGA Reunion you missed a treat. I have missed only one of the ten so far and can tell you up front that they continue to be the highlight of my year. This was another great meeting and was fortunate enough to renew a friendship with Cpl. Ski Wyzgowski after 45 years. We were in Lagos '64 and '65. Congrats to the Reunion Committee... ET

Just as Jim Tracy said, Susie and I had a wonderful time at the 2009 Reunion in Alexandria. I would like to thank Terry, Mike, George and Jerry for all their hard work on organizing and handling it. An excellent job and well done. For those that missed it, you missed a great one and with General P.X. Kelley in attendence... Thanks again for everyone that made it to this one and will see everyone again in 2010. Semper Fi, Joe
