(Bill Allen) In 1972 the Baader Meinhof gang was going around Germany bombing US Military Buildings.  Marines in Hamberg Germany were on full alert and had German Police posted at the front and back drive ways of the Consulate.  Read about the Baader Meinhof gang in the link below.

Note: During the period 1938-1941 each of the following served as Chargé d’Affaires ad interim: Alexander C. Kirk (May 1939-Oct 1940) and Leland B. Morris (Oct 1940-Dec 1941). Morris was serving as Chargé d’Affaires ad interim when Germany declared war on the United Staes Dec 11, 1941.

Note: Commissioned to the Federal Republic of Germany. The Embassy in Germany had been reestablished May 5, 1955, with Ambassador-designate Conant (who had been serving as High Commissioner) in charge except for a brief temporary absence pending confirmation of his nomination, commission, and presentation of his letter of credence.
