Sgt's
Louis and Jim Deaner were brothers and it is very rare that two
brothers served together as MSGs at the same post much less a small
post like Copenhagen. From Jerome Paull, "Lou Deaner was standing watch
one night. Lou was looking out the window admiring his new
Opel
car that was parked on the street outside the MAAG/Kaserne. A
car
driven by a drunk Dane came around the corner and plowed into Lou's new
car. The driver backed up and drove away. Lou was
panicked.
He could not leave his post to confront the driver.
He
called the Danish police."

American
Embassy building in Copenhagen, Denmark, opened on May 27.
From
Tom Mix Capt USMC Ret'd "When I first arrived in Copenhagen
in
April the embassy was located in a buisness building near Kongens
Nytorv. We had the top floor and stood watch in civilian
clothes.
Marines wore a shoulder holster with a .38 revolver.
In
those days we had two posts, one at the embassy and one with a MAAG
Group at the Danish Army Kaserne near Triangle. The watch
standers would spend one month at each post then trade. When
the
new embassy opened in June we wore blues, no blouse.....Also the watch
standers only stood duty during the closed times (nights, weekends and
holidays) for the embassy." The NCOIC was on duty during
business
hours.
