Comment by Leon Bing 06JAN2012: It was an awesome time! The only Major incident was someone shot up the US Aid building across the street from the embassy. But I miss my fellow marines; Alfred, Terry Nix AKA "Frag", Michael, Brian Peters, and age won't let me recall the other names, but it was great! Afterwards it was off to Mexico!

From Dennis Wuerth 04SEP2010: In the early 70's Tegucigalpa was a sleepy little Spanish town.  Narrow streets, plenty of street vendors, and sandwich shops.  I think I spent my 3 years with stomach problems, and getting my throat coated with iodine by Polly, our Embassy nurse.  The Marine Ball's were held at the Hotel Maya and filled to capacity.  Our Marine House was originally next to the Embassy Commissary but we moved about 1973.  Can't remember the street.  Every Friday night the house was filled with Embassy Staff, Honduran Friends, MILGRP, AID workers, Peace Corps, and other Embassy Staff  to drink our beer, eat our pretzels, and build up our Marine Ball Fund.

Overall, it was a quiet 3 years.  Some the the Marines got married when they left, some didn't.  Almost all, myself included, extended and did our entire MSG tour in Tegucigalpa.
